Tithings and Offerings and Blessings
2 Corinthians 8:1-12
9:5-8
Tithing is what a Christian will do. Non believers do not need to tithe if they do not understand
the significance and meaning of tithing.
Money is considered an important aspect of life. The Bible talks about money about 800 times,
Jesus brought up about 39 example events and 11 of them are about money.
Money tests a person`s heart, and can cause a change of heart, and if looked at in the wrong
way can cause people to go astray.
For offerings it can be seen as two main types, Tithing of earnings, and Offerings.
1) Tithing of earnings
- as Christians we need to be very careful, as we do not want to worship money instead
of worshiping God. If we do tithing correctly, it can become a blessing in our lives.
We are the stewards of God. God rewards and awards us with many things and blessings
and talents and gifts.
We have to expand and make profit for Him, so as to further God`s kingdom.
We are responsible for the things that God has awarded to us. Matthew 6:33
If we put God first, God will increase our Blessings.
Tithes are for Jesus, as Jesus saved us and gives us eternal life.
Genesis 14:18-20 Abraham was the first person to do tithing.
Hebrew 6:20
Tithing is not for salvation. It is a way of thanking Jesus for saving us.
Tithing is to be given to the place where we worship and receive our spiritual food. Malachi 3:10-11
Blessings (V.11) God will protect the business and not allow it to be badly affected or to fail or vanish.
Believers doing the right things are blessed and become more affluent and richer. Matthew 23:23
2) Offerings
1 Corinthians 16:1-4
Prophet Paul encourages that offerings are made to bless and help the poor and less unfortunate.
Two Examples
Example 1) Macedonia-2 Cor 8:5 Offer yourself first, we first need to be believers
Romans 12:1
2) We should give according to our ability. (8:11)
3) Do it with a plan and sincerity 2 Cor 8:10
4) Do it with thankfulness 2 Cor 8:7, and God`s blessings will improve our lives
5) Help the church community 2 Cor 8:13-14
6) Offering is to be done with a willing heart. No need to force ourselves (9:6)
God will bless those who help the poor.
Example 2) Jesus (8:9)
1) Become richer due to God in heaven
2) Willing to be poor to help others
3) So that someone can become rich and be rewarded spiritually
- Help each other with love
- The poor receives help
- Resulting in thanksgiving
