Be Merciful, just as your Father is Merciful (Luke 6:36 / Psalm 116:5)
Compassion means: Love, Adoration, Desire for believers to be Happy
Benevolence means having pity and wanting and helping to pass through bad/difficult period.
Mercy means : loving through kindness and pity
God has compassion, benevolence and mercy for all of us. (Titus 3:4-5)
But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, He saved us, not because of the
righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy.
Compassion is what all Christians should have. God allows Jesus to come to this earth to show
the love and mercy He has, and this mercy has given us the chance to have a new life, to experience
God`s mercy through God`s love.
We experience God`s mercy and we can share mercy with others.
Jesus Christ
1. Jesus has mercy and helps people (Luke 10:33-34) "But a Samaritan, as he travelled, came where
the man was, and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds,
pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took
care of him."
2. Jesus has mercy and forgives us of our sins (Matthew 18:23-27) Parable of the unforgiving debtor
We should forgive others when we see how God has forgiven us. The mercy of God enables us to
give mercy to others and give forgiveness.
How does the Bible teaches us about Mercy?
1. "... If it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.." (Romans 12:6-8)
2 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. (Luke 6:36)
2.1 Jesus shows mercy by loving people.
2.2 Jesus shows mercy by helping people
2.3 Jesus shows mercy by forgiving people.
Questions for us to think about:
1. Why does God love compassion and mercy, and not sacrifices?
2. If you are a Samaritan, will you help the poor and the sick?
" How God shows mercy and compassion for all of us, enabling us to do the same to other people too."
