King V and Queen Mary were strolling along the seashore when the Queen stumbled on a rock and sprained her ankle. The royal couple made their way to the nearest cottage for help and knocked on the door.
“Who’s there?” asked a voice from inside.
“King George and Queen Mary”
“You don’t expect me to swallow that, do you?”
The King replied: “Come and see for yourself.”
The man and his wife came to the door, and when they saw who it was, gladly welcomed them in. For years afterwards, they told the story to every willing listener, always ending with the words: “We almost refused to let them in!”
Christ stands at the door of every man’s heart. Whether He will come in or go away will depend on every man’s response to His knocking.
