Take the time to listen to people who need advice and comfort. Everybody needs a counselor at some time in their lives. I know a minister who decided to become a bartender. After years away at college and seminary, he went to school to learn how to mix drinks. He decided that most people who have problems don’t talk to ministers, psychiatrists, or professional counselors. He discovered that many of the people with hurts often try to escape through alcohol at the neighborhood bar.
He decided he’d have to get close to them, so for three years he worked as a bartender. He became a beautiful influence upon the lives of many people. He uplifted, guided, and taught the people who came to him for advice. And he led many to Christ and the Church
