Everyone has moments of discouragement. But one does not have to keep in that mood. He can turn to personal Lord who is able to change defeat into victory.
One morning Jerome Hines was sitting in his dressing room at the Met waiting for moment he would sing a radio opera. He was in gloomy mood and his voice was giving him problems. “I wanted to turn to the Lord in the trouble with my voice, but that seemed a selfish sort of act,” he reasoned. He said he was feeling about as low as he could and asked God how anyone could possibly love him. Hines was startled to sense the uplifting presence of God, who seemed to impress him that He loved him enough to die for him. “The truth of God’s love burst upon me like warm sunshine…… I sang Tannhauser as I never has before.”
Later, a friend wrote: “I have seen you many times on stage but on the Saturday broadcast of Tannhauser your whole being radiated the peace and love of God. It was a memorable experience.” Hines accepted that the incident as another essential lesson in his Christian life.
